Family Law

Children

Sometimes the hardest part of a relationship breakdown is what happens to the children. You want what is best for them. That’s what we’re here to help you achieve. Whether it is adoption, residence, contact, or any other issues affecting your children, we’ll help you work out what’s best for your children, then do all we can to help you make it happen.

Cohabitation
Many couples choose to live together without marrying, known in the law as cohabitation. However, this too can have legal consequences. The Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 contains important property rights for cohabitants, for example, on separation and in cases of inheritance. Many people living together will look into the idea of a cohabitation agreement – like a “pre-nup” – so that everyone knows where they stand if anything should happen. If you are worried about the effects of cohabitation and exactly what this means for you, then just call us.
